How PDA is Delivering Service Amidst COVID-19. By: Caroline James, Fundraising Campaign Manager- PDA

Many non-profit organizations have suffered as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. A survey Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) of nearly five hundred and fifty non-profits in ninety-three countries conducted between March 24 and 26, 2020 found that 95.5% percent of respondents reported negative impacts related to the virus, including a drop-in contribution of about 67.9%. PDA is not left out in all of this as it is affecting our core operations and activities; we have had to re-evaluate our operations and budget and will continue re-assessing on a weekly and monthly basis.

The pandemic and its attendant lockdown have also impacted our ability to work with communities as frequently as we should. Notwithstanding, PDA has not relented in its work as our staff and volunteers in various communities have been educating, illustrating and sensitizing people in the rural areas and communities on the pandemic and the need to follow all the guidelines to stay safe during this time. We have done this in the 13 communities in Ebonyi state especially as the number of cases is increasing by the day. Recently, PDA distributed food and relief materials and 108 households benefitted from this.

Sadly, with the current financial crises in the world, the chances are that traditional sources of funding will reduce dramatically or even dry out. PDA benefits from international donations through ActionAid – much of this comes from Europe where the impacts of the pandemic have been hard. Still, PDA cannot stop its work in communities who rely on them to continue to transform their lives.

This is the rationale behind this Individual Giving Initiative (IGI). Now, local individuals can support on a monthly basis to expand PDAs impact to improve the standard of living of the poor and excluded in the communities where we work. We guarantee that 80% of every single donation will be used for direct programming, and 20% will be retained for management cost. Ebonyi state is the only state from the South-eastern region that falls under the top poorest with 73.6% poverty rate. With the pandemic hitting hard, imagine how worse off their lives will be. This has disrupted their agricultural production and their little sources of income have been affected greatly making it difficult for many to get enough to eat.

At this juncture, PDA will like to appreciate everyone that has given to the IGI since its inception on June 1st, 2020. To learn more about the IGI, kindly read the fundraising policy document on our page (www.pdanigeria.org). You can also support us by liking, sharing and commenting on all our social media platforms. PDA looks forward to having you to be part of something impactful, life-changing and meaningful.
