2022 Message By Dr Mark Abani, Board Chair

The year 2021 was a year of several striking accomplishments. We are grateful to all those who chose to take the walk through the rugged road of development with us. We applaud the courage of our community folks who never gave up but, chose to support our human rights-based approach. PDA acknowledges the full support from ActionAid Nigeria in providing funding and technical support. We also, thank our individual donors who bravely embarked on unpredictable road to provide assistance to the work we do.

PDA also appreciates all the ministries and agencies within Ebonyi State who made themselves available whenever we need them, we enjoy the cordial work relationship: Ministry of Agriculture, The State Emergency Management Agency, Small and Medium Scale Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria, as well as all the Media Outlets we work with, among others. We appreciate the efforts of our facilitators in the thirteen communities we work with, who do their best to ensure the work run smoothly and effectively. To the staff who made it all possible, great job!

Below are some of our accomplishments:

PDA and Scale Up Public Finance in Agriculture (SUPIA) worked extensively to influence our lawmakers in the Agricultural sector in respect to follow the Maputo/Malabo declaration and are pleased to say our several advocacies visits to the concerned Ministries and Agencies led to this declaration being included in the budget for 2022. Through the local Right Program, PDA conducted several support monitoring visits to women peer groups to treat difficult topics and discuss emerging issues.

Additionally, we carried out an Impact Assessment Program of our thirteen communities to see the extent of progress achieved by working in these communities, we also supervised the state of physical projects built within these communities. We held validation meetings with the office of the Special Assistant to the Government on Climate Change for the Development of Climate Change Policy and Action Plan.

In the same vein, PDA assisted in providing legal, medical and psychological support to a rape survivor, this has tremendously changed her life and helped us work with partners to develop a template to address such situations in the future. We also carried out training sessions within the communities we work with on the violence against person prohibition law (VAPP). In addition, we supported in training seven girls from different communities and after a year in training, we made seed grants available for them to start up their trade.

Again, we dedicate our last year success stories to our partners and donors, who never gave up in the face of economic hardship. We remain grateful. PDA promises to do better with your assistance and support. We look forward to a beautiful and fruitful year working with you all. With positivity, we say welcome to our New Donors!
